you can but you need to have it much higher than a T8 would be, I'm sure you've read a few times that you need to stretch them especially when young so I'm thinking maybe some ginkoba pills are in order

I'm not happy with the way even the 12/12s grow with the 400MH - wondering if it's just too much for the space 1m X 1m X 1.5m.
Think it's stunting everything I put in there.

On the autos - didn't realise how important the stretch is and kinda thought the Mh would be ok - wrong.

If my mate down the road can get them to 1 foot by the time they show sex and mine are 4 inches - serious problem somewhere.
My soil's right, PH is right, temps are right and light timing is right.

Conclusion - the 400MH is doing me no favours with autos or 12/12s. Through winter I'm going to experiment with CFL vegging and
HPS flowering.

Nearly forgot myself for a minute there dearies. Just got back after a lovely day on the beach, Topless ofcourse before you ask.
If only Dorris would keep something on. Mr Chin too - Chinamen have nothing down below if you know what I mean.
I prefer a Caddie to a Nissan Micra any day.

don't think the 400 MH is too much for 39x39 and lots of people run 600's in that area but at 36x36. I would start them under a T8 and allow them to stretch under that. Once they show sex and start to stretch which seems like the same time and once they stop I would put them under the 400 MH but that's about 4 weeks from seed under the T8 maybe 5. If you got a 4 foot T8 fixture you would arrange your plants from smallest to tallest and lean the light on an angle if need but that's if you could fit a 4 foot light but I doubt you could. The T8 4 footers are 32 watts per bulb or at least the ones I got are. I'm gonna have to put my auto run on hold to veg these other ones for the next round and then I will which is cool cuz I can only run 16/8 right now with summer in full effect, been that way for a 2-3 months now which 105-108 index with 50-70% humidity and it's just miserable. Hope you get it sorted out soon

Not sure the T8 will fit. I'll check it out.
Mine have been showing sex at 20 days ish and at 4 inches ish under the 400 and then stop growing - finishing at 6 inches.
Have a new lot outside in the shade and are one and half inches at 4 days in soil - better.

That's humid where you are - guessing you are buying elsewhere?

Have 12/12s very happy outdoors only (15/9) and similar ones going in at night for an extra 6 hrs MH (21/3) - they aint happy at all.
MH is running at 48% humidity and 28C, that coco, peat and Perlite mix - MH at 3 ft above plants, 6 inch Vortex on full blast and fan at canopy level.
Half strength nutes plus Molasses every other watering.

Losing the will to live.

if you got two of them 65 watt cfls that would do the trick for ten autos and even upto 20 but cant have just 10 under one 65 watt cfl you need the two in there should get the stretch then just got to get the right distance to close with cfl and you stunt them too

Hello my lovelies,
My WQ Mother at 2 months (outdoor only) and an OCF green pheno clone at 2 months under MH.
If she survives August - WQ is my winter smoke.

Dear Mr McLovebox,
Remember the clones you told me to suck first?
Here's one now at 1 foot - taken from the plant in previous pic.

plants look great Mildred and I'm glad that little trick worked out for you, I've been clipping off the plant then trimming the leaves up (docking and removing) and then I just plop it in the mouth and repeat, then putting them in a shot glass for awhile and then doing my thing and it's been working. Unfortunately it is that hot where I live and humidity is a killer with a dewpoint in effect constantly. Also if you can cut through a node when you take a clipping on that WQ and that will help you too and I bet if you suck it for 30 seconds or so you won't even need cloning powder or gel but just don't dip one next and see what happens cuz saliva is a great rooting agent. You seen that fuck up by BP, that's where I'm at near the Gulf.

Cross your fingers for me - last 2 years my outdoor grows have died off in the heat (I think it was heat) at about this time.
Hence shadecloth wigwams this year. Also got the roots covered with a layer of sawdust and ceramic tiles on top of that - moisture in and heat out.
You can see she's stretching cos of the shade - but at least she aint dead.
These WQs can look fine one minute and next day all yellow and flopped - no reviving them if they do it.
Am hoping to take a few more before she goes into flower and box grow them through Autumn.
My first year of successful cloning - everything died last year. Found the formula that works for me.
It's possible the strains you are trying to clone aren't suited to your climate. I mean they may go fine from seed but cant root from clone.
Others may be more suited.
I'd love to try the WQ at your place.
The "local" grow here is a Morro Sativa - goes around 7 ft, small leaves and quite woody. Pretty boring weak smoke but high yield.
The Queen holds a shitload more water in the stems and is much more sensitive to heat and watering.
The WQs love humidity. Seem to root best in real damp soil, under a dome, misted like a rain forrest at 25c and left outside in the shade.
If they survive August, I'll be Mildred all Winter (lucky you).
I used to be in BPs business, infact we sold our Crude to BP some years.
Just announced their CEO is out - good, what an arse - but arrogance got him the job in the first place.
But it's the price we pay for raping the planet to fuel our V8s.
Hope it cools for you soon.

I had problems cloning cuz I had too much soil in the mix, soil is too water retentive lol but coco has proved that is the one for me. I always did like the stuff the first time I mixed it up and felt it but now I see how to use it properly but when i'm out of FFOF which will be in a couple of months or less I'll go strictly coco/perlite and a pinch of wormcastings to get them through til the first node and I'll feed once they have it. I'm pulling for you on the WQ's but make sure you see the doctor to make sure you're healthy enough to be doing those kinds of activities cuz hips are getting expensive nowadays along with knees icon_thumright

Thanks Lovey,
WQ is a pretty plant - kinda majestic with those big shades.
Had to cut them late August last year cos they was dying. OK smoke but not the business. Supposed to finish in October.
Grew one in the box last winter MH/HPS - different ball game, it's a mind bender.
I've been blaming my soil for a year now but now realised it's lighting that is my prob.
That outdoor WQ is in Horse poo, cheap peat, washed sand, Perlite and some of that crap soil you can see all around it. But I rotted fish in the hole in the winter.
Molasses and half strength nutes every other water.
Max height according to the Seedbank is 1M 20CMs - 4ft say "under ideal conditions". She's about there already and still going.

I remember now - you had too much gooey soil in there.
Difficult to describe innit? They like it wet but with air around them - Coco, Perlite......
Just have to keep giving them water but keep the pots light.
Something satisfying about cloning I find.

My knees have taken a lot over the years deary, how did you guess? Occupational hazzard I have to suffer.
Also have RSI in my left wrist - again, not recegnised as an "Occupational Ilness".
Life sucks - if the price is right.
